Jennifer Lopez celebrates release of her Spanish album
28 March 2007 (Sawf News) - Jennifer Lopez's new album titled "Como Ama Una Mujer" or "How a Woman Loves" hit stores on Tuesday. Co-produced by husband, Marc Anthony, this is her first album sung solely in Spanish.
The Latin sensation, who was dissuaded from singing in Spanish by former Sony executive Tommy Mottola when she embarked on her career, is elated to return to her roots.
"I thought that my career was going to be in Spanish music, honestly," Lopez said. "My life took a different turn, which was great for me. But my heart was always kind of on the Spanish side."
Lopez, who was born and brought up in the US, learnt Spanish after she became an adult.

CD Review - Jennifer Lopez's Como Ama Una Mujer
When listening to J.Lo's new album, Como Ama Una Mujer, at first you might think “I never noticed how thick of an accent she has--like, it’s so thick I can hardly understand what she’s saying!” Then, in a moment of clarity, you realize that’s she’s singing in Spanish.
This makes the CD, which she collaborated on with husband Mark Anthony, a little disappointing, because despite having the music, you feel the need to hear some of Lopez’s beautiful, poetic lyrics like: “Let's get loud, let's get loud/Turn the music up, let's do it/C'mon people let's get loud/Let's get loud /Turn the music up to hear that sound.” Boy, she makes William Wordsworth look like a hack.
The first track, “Que Hiciste,” is like sitting in a lukewarm hot tub: neither enjoyable nor uncomfortable. By the second song, which has some more gritty instrumental parts in it, you’ve completely forgotten how the last one went. Which isn’t a good sign considering “Que Hiciste” is the first single from the album.
The third tune, “Como Ama Una Mujer,” is one you might expect to hear in a Spanish version of Little Orphan Annie. I don’t even speak the language and I still thought the lyrics were too sappy … and I only cried a little. Won’t somebody help that little, redheaded Spanish orphan is all I could think.
“Te Voy A Querer,” track No. 4, provides listeners with some classic percussion parts that you’d expect from a Spanish album. Actually, it’s by far the most authentic-sounding song on Como Ama Una Mujer, although I may have detected an accordion in it.
Likely, the strongest track here is the simply titled “Tu.” With a thick, smeared R&B bass, coated in a catchy palm-muted guitar line and actual string parts--unlike a previous track with obviously synthesized strings--it sounds like a truly crafted piece of music. It even has a fancy guitar solo and you can tell that there’s a real drummer playing, rather than a computerized one.
Next up we have “Amarte Es Todo,” which sounds like a Spanish mix of Cat Stevens’ “Wild World” and the title theme from James Bond’s Never Say Never Again. In fact, each time I listened to it, I heard another song that I could swear she was ripping off.
Como Ama Una Mujer ends with a live track, which is basically the only way to differentiate it from the previous one--oh, and it has a Spanish guitar part as well. Fittingly titled “Adios,” the song at least shows that Lopez isn’t dependent on studio techniques and gadgets to produce her voice.
If you like Lopez and her music, then you’ll likely find her new CD enjoyable. It’s good to dance to, has some emotional tunes and a bit of variety, and the Spanish influence reaches beyond the vocals into the music. If you don’t like J.Lo, however, you might find yourself wishing the album were as abbreviated as her nickname.

Record Review: Como ama una mujer
No surprises on "Como Ama una Mujer" (Epic), Jennifer López's 11-track debut Spanish-language album.
She delivers the requisite emotion on inspired love ("To Voy A Querer"), betrayal ("Que Hiciste?") and sadness ("Sola"). She stands out where emotions run high, such as the first single — "Que Hiciste?" — in which she conveys the anger and hurt of a woman done wrong. Rhythmic guitars, hard percussion and López's smooth vocals fuel the grooves on "Tu." Most of the other tunes are bland, slow-starting, big production (four feature the strings of the London Symphony Orchestra) ballads about pain and deliverance.
Latest word is that López's hubby Marc Anthony is producing a duet with her in a new, Sergio George-produced, tropical version of "Que Hiciste?" As expected, there is an array of top line products and songwriters on this project, including the Colombians Estefano and Julio Reyes.
Bottom line: Hard-core J.Lo fans will love this latest López CD. Fence-sitters may want to wait for the greatest-hits package.

After the success of Ricardo Arjona’s concerts at the Poliedro de Caracas and the Teresa Carreño Theater, promoters are working on new concerts by international artists like Jennifer López.
Belinda’s promotional tour will take place in April. The young Mexican singer of Ni Freud ni tu mamá will participate in some radio festivals and TV shows to promote her latest album, Utopia.
Two concerts by Mexican bands are scheduled for May: first Reik and then, the Sin Bandera duo.
July will be the month of Chayanne: he will return to the country to present the songs of his CD Mi tiempo in Caracas, Maracaibo, and Valencia.
August will be the turn of Jennifer López, who on this occasion will be accompanied by her husband, the Puerto Rican singer Marc Anthony.

No Baby Yet For Lopez And Anthony
Marc Anthony is warning people against believing reports that his wife is pregnant.
Many media outlets have tried to claim that Jennifer Lopez is pregnant, but the Latin singer says he will confirm it when it happens - and jokes that he may be in handcuffs when it happens.
Anthony told TV's "Extra," "You're going to hear from me first and it's going to be me in handcuffs."
The crooner says he will be "screaming like a madman" down Sunset Boulevard when his stunning wife is finally expecting.
Meanwhile, having children reportedly inspired Lopez when she was workingon her Spanish album.
The singer and actress said, "When we began working on it, I was like 'wouldn't it be great to have a song that I could sing to a baby one day?'"
The diva adds it was her husband's support that helped her finish her latest recording effort. She said, "His (Anthony) total confidence and his total belief in me helped me connect my heart to my voice."
Although Lopez was once a fame hungry superstar, she has softened in her marriage to Anthony. But she isn't about to give up any of her ambitions.
She added, "I'm hungry to grow. I'm hungry to be the best I can be. It's a lifetime journey. I want to look back and think I was a good singer and a good actress. I was also a good wife, a good daughter, a good mom."

Jennifer Lopez has promised to dish the dirt on her former lovers when she is 80.
The 37-year-old star, who has been married three times, refuses to reveal intimate details about her love life now because it would cause too much trouble.
She said: "Maybe when I'm 80, I'll write about all the sordid details. But not any time soon."
J.Lo was first married to restaurant worker Ojani Noa, and then to dancer Cris Judd. She was also engaged to Hollywood star Ben Affleck and dated rapper P Diddy.
She married singer Marc Anthony in a secret ceremony in June 2004.
Meanwhile, J.Lo is looking forward to her upcoming appearance on talent show 'American Idol'.
She said: "I'm very excited. I watched it last night. I have a couple of favourites."

JLo will pen autobiography only when she turns 80
Jennifer Lopez will definitely pen an autobiography, but not anytime in the near future.
The 37-year-old, who is now married to third hubby Marc Anthony, said that she will venture on her when she turns an octogenarian. The Hispanic star also said that in her autobiography will enlist the ‘sordid’ details of her life.
“Maybe when I'm 80, I'll write about all the sordid details and who did what. But for now, not anytime soon," Contactmusic quoted her, as telling ‘New York Post’. Meanwhile, rumours are rife that Lopez’s marriage is on the rocks
Sources revealed that the couple has hit a rather rough patch in their marital life, and that their happiness is being marred by an increasing number of fights. "There was a fight on New Year's Eve," a source said. Another source revealed that Anthony had turned a cold shoulder, when Lopez asked him to speak a few lines on her upcoming album.
“There was a fight after she performed at the Super Bowl, and when she had an album-listening party in Miami two months ago, there was an issue. Lopez stood up and talked about her upcoming album and said, "This is my dream and Marc and I worked so hard on this album . . . Marc, would you like to say something?" - to which Anthony coldly said, "No," and looked away,” another source said.

Jennifer Lopez Refuses To Answer Kim Porter Criticisms
Jennifer Lopez was unimpressed by a magazine interview with her ex-boyfriend Sean 'Diddy' Combs' current partner Kim Porter, declaring the former model's criticisms of her were "not necessary".
Former model Porter dated the hip-hop mogul from 1994 and they had a son Christian together in 1997. However, Combs left her to date his musical protégée Lopez in 1999.
After his high-profile relationship with Lopez ended in February 2001, within two years he had reunited with his old flame Porter and they now have baby twin girls D'Lila and Jessie, who were born in December.
In an October interview in America's Essence magazine, Porter blasted Combs' relationship with Lopez, declaring, "He fell for a booty and a smile" and admitted she used to tell the rapper he would return to her when he left "his little Puerto Rican girlfriend".
Porter admitted she was in contact with Combs every day of his relationship with Lopez and forbid him from letting their son Christian associate with the Latino beauty.
Porter said, "Does she look like the type that would want to play house and family with two little black kids? No."
When asked by the New York Post what she thought about Porter's comments, Lopez says, "I am not going to go there.
"Look, she knows what went on, I know what went on. And that is where we have to leave it. I am not going to discuss any of the details of that intimate relationship that I had with the public. It's just not that necessary."

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s Marital Woes
Jennifer Lopez just can’t seem to find a relationship that works. The singer-actress is reportedly on the verge of another breakup, this time with husband Marc Anthony.
This is the longest tenured relationship for the three-times married Lopez, but the NY Post is reporting that she and her hubby have been fighting since the year began.
According to the Post’s Page Six, things could unravel for the pair because they are still childless.
A source told the newspaper, “There was a fight on New Year’s Eve.”
Another insider added, “There was a fight after she performed at the Super Bowl, and when she had an album-listening party in Miami two months ago, there was an issue.”
The second source revealed that Anthony refused to give a speech at Lopez’s album launch party. However, Lopez’s rep dismisses the report.
She said, “They fight, sure, but everyone fights. They’re fine.”

Egyptian folk singer Hakim and American singer Jennifer Lopez have reached an agreement to sing a duet. Hakim initially postponed negotiations with Jennifer since she was in the process of moving to a new production company, although Hakim still hopes to include the duet in his upcoming album.
According to the UAE based daily, Al Bayan, Hakim has so far recorded seven songs for his upcoming album. He has worked with some of the brightest composers like Egyptian singer Hameed Al Sha'eri, Amal Al Taer, Mohammad Ismat, Issam Tawfiq, Waleed Abdul Atheem and Hamdi Sukar.
